What to Do if You Get Frequent Headaches and Eye Strain

Frequent headaches, eye strain and migraines can make life miserable and even unbearable, especially if your headaches are paired with other symptoms, such as nausea and light sensitivity. As such, if you are struggling with headaches far too often than you should be, here are some of the steps that you can take to remedy this.

Look at OTC Remedies

Your first port of call should be your local drugstore, especially if you have done nothing to sort out your headaches other than ignore them. There are many remedies that you can get for headaches and migraines over the counter, which might help to alleviate your pain, especially if you find that you are struggling to find whatever is triggering them. However, OTC remedies will not often offer a long-term solution, so it is still important that you take other measures to help your condition before it dampens your quality of life.

Get Reading Glasses

A lot of headaches and eye strain are caused by poor eyesight as, when your eyesight declines, your eye muscles have to work extra hard to focus on a chosen object. If you find that you are getting headaches after reading, watching TV or using a computer, it is important to get your eyesight checked by an optometrist. They will be able to see whether you need glasses to help you to see and to prevent you from getting so many headaches. Dry eyes can also cause you to experience headaches, as will constant screen use. You might also decide to remedy the issue yourself if you know that your eyesight is struggling, and you can do this by looking for reading glasses in your local stores and online. Reading glasses can be bought without a prescription and you will likely be able to get them at the strength that you require them if you do not need glasses all the time.

Go to the Doctor

You should also go to the doctor if you are experiencing frequent headaches, as these could be a sign of something more serious, especially if this is paired with blurry vision. Frequent headaches could be a symptom of sleep apnea, stress, problems with your joints, or even a tumor. It is then important that you do not leave your headaches be and that you tell a doctor about your concerns. They will be able to get to the root of the problem, give you any necessary prescription medication, send you for extra testing, if needed, and try to ensure that you are able to enjoy a headache-free future.

Drink More Fluids

Headaches could also be a sign of dehydration. A lot of people do not drink as much as they should and this causes your brain to contract. Your nerves are then under pressure, which can cause a headache. You should make sure that you drink eight cups a day of preferably water, and you should set an alarm on your mobile phone, or carry a smart water bottle around with you if you are struggling to meet this target.
