How can you avoid infections after shaving?

Shaving is the act of removing your body hair with the help of a cream or a tool. These tools are often metals sharp blades that slice off the hair follicles over the skin. The cream products that are used contain chemicals that soften the hair enough to wipe them off with a spatula or a cloth.

People have shifted from shaving to waxing most areas of their body. This is because there was an increased ratio of infection caused by shaving than waxing on the skin. Despite of the infections, the factors such as pain and time have made waxing still a second option. To avoid any infection after shaving, here are a few tips you can follow.

  • High quality products
  • Follow the direction of hair
  • Prepare your skin
  • Warm water before shave
  • Keep your tools clean
  • Use antiseptics

Use high quality products

Don’t just look for some cheap shaving cream. A shaving gel and a small amount of moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, and coconut oil are the types of bases that can provide good protection for your shaver.

Follow the Direction of hair

Make sure that you move your blades in the direction of the hair follicles. Be careful of razor lines when shaving. Apply gentle downward pressure and hold the shaver at a 45-degree angle. Keep strokes short and even avoid skin irritation. Always remember to shave in the direction of hair growth.

Prepare your skin

Preparing your skin before shaving is important, but it’s also important to use a quality razor. If you’re shaving your legs or bikini line, King recommends looking for a razor with multiple blades and a swivel head that conforms to your body’s curves. She also recommends getting a razor with soothing stripes to protect your skin when shaving. The ergonomic handle, which fits your hand, is also an important feature to look out for.

Warm water before shave

Hold a warm, damp washcloth close to your face for about 2-3 minutes before shaving. This helps hydrate the skin and soften the hair follicles for a smooth shaving experience. Alternatively, you can rinse your face with warm water before shaving.

An easy way to do this is to take a warm bath before shaving (or shave in the shower). And make sure to shave without thoroughly wetting your face first. Wet hair is significantly more fragile than dry hair, making it easier to trim and limiting the risk of skin irritation afterwards.

Keep your tools clean

You don’t want to keep wiping down your shaver without cleaning it. If you don’t rinse your shaver, you can easily get irritation or infection. It is also important to replace the blades regularly. If you use a disposable razor, throw it away regularly. While it may seem wasteful, I recommend changing the blades or throwing away the disposable razor after 5 to 7 days.

Use antiseptics

To make sure that you are safe from the infections, use an antiseptic after your shave. This can help keep the germs away from your open pore. Moreover the skin is quite sensitive post shaving so, it need some protection from the environment. A natural antiseptic such as alum, can be used over the skin. Just rise a small block of alum with water and apply it directly on the area you have shaved. It closes all the pores and kills any bacteria residing on the skin.

Consult a doctor

If you feel like you are suffering from any irritation after using a new product, immediately go to a dermatologist. You can find the best skin specialist in Lahore or the best dermatologist in Karachi all at one place, oladoc.
