Zinfandel History

For over two centuries, the history of Zinfandel has been intertwined with that of its home state. The earliest mention of a grape called “Black Spanish” comes from Thomas Jefferson’s garden notebook, which he kept. 

At the same time, he served as ambassador to France in 1784. It was first cultivated on American soil by Swiss immigrants who brought vines with them. When they emigrated to California at the turn of the nineteenth century. Since then, it has become an integral part of California’s heritage.
