How to Make the Most Out of a Day Trip to Miami

If you’re traveling down to Florida, no road trip is complete down south without visiting Miami located in South Florida.

As one of the southern United States’ most popular and sunny travel destinations, Miami is loved for its Latin American influences, Art Deco architecture, rich cuisine, and white-sand beaches.

Whether you are lying in the sun, strolling along Ocean Drive in South Beach, or browsing the artwork and shops in Wynwood and Miami Design District, there is plenty to do in this tourist destination.

Visitors can also enjoy the sounds and the rhythms of Cuba & Latin America in Little Havana or sip on a sweet cocktail while the winds of the Atlantic ocean breeze through their hair.

No matter what you enjoy while you’re on vacation, we’ve got the perfect travel itinerary suggestions for your time in Miami.

 See the Incredible Sunrise

Do you love watching the sunrise? If you’re an early riser, consider taking in a beautiful sunrise while taking a morning walk around South Beach before it gets crowded with visitors.

At South Beach, you will get the chance to experience the ultimate hangout spot with one of the best beaches in the USA and the liveliest seaside experiences within a major urban center.

While you’re on your walk, you can take in the sea views, enjoy a break in the palm-shaded Lummus Park, and even a quick frolick in the water if you’re in the mood for a swim.

Stroll Along Española Way

After checking out the sunrise in South Beach, you can also stroll along Española Way – but first, consider using a luggage storage in Miami option to avoid carrying around all your items.

Like so many places in Miami, Española Way is full of history. Dating back to the 1920s, Española Way, one of the first commercial developments in Miami Beach, looks exactly like a historic Mediterranean Spanish village.

Visit the Art Deco District

In addition to strolling along Española Way, another well-known area of Miami is its Art Deco District, which includes over 800 historic buildings.

With the largest concentration of Art Deco architecture in the United States, this district specializes in the art deco style as well as the Mediterranean Revival and MiMo (Miami Modern) architectural styles.

For those interesting in learning more about these architectural histories, consider visiting the Art Deco Museum or Art Deco Welcome Center located in Lummus Park.

In this district, visitors can enjoy the pastel-colored buildings, along with a series of art galleries, boutiques, patio restaurants, cafés, and Miami’s famous Cuban cuisine and Havana throwback style at places such as Havana 1957.

Street art in Wynwood

Are you into the colorful gift that is street art? If so, another great day-trip suggestion for Miami would be to visit the Wynwood neighborhood, which is well known for its street art collection.

The district’s main attraction is the Wynwood Walls – an open-air outdoor art museum.

This area showcases over 80,000 square feet of wall murals and graffiti that has been created by over 50 artists from a total of 16 different countries.

In addition to all of the street art in Wynwood, the region has a plethora of culinary options – such as craft breweries, bistros, restaurants, and bars – in its abandoned warehouse area.

Miami Design District

As a visitor to Miami, you may want to take a break from the walking and sightseeing and instead opt to do a bit of shopping. If this is the case, we’ve got the place for you – the Design District.

Considered one of the most upscale neighborhoods in Midtown Miami, the Design District has plenty of art galleries to peruse, fashion boutiques to shop in, and restaurants to sit in and feast on celebrity chef offerings.

Not only does the Miami Design District offer visitors a range of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Christian Louboutin, but it also has great architecture for those visitors who enjoy Miami’s aesthetic.

Closely connected to the design district is also the neighborhood’s premier art venue, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA), which is great for those visitors who are interested in checking out the work of emerging local artists.

Cuban Flavor in Little Havana

One of the best things about Miami is the Cuban flavor that it offers, given the large Cuban community that finds residence in the area of Florida.

If you are interested to see what Cuban Americans in this region have to offer, consider visiting Little Havana, located directly west of Downtown Miami and located around Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street).

In this district, you can find a series of shops, restaurants, and cafés inspired by Cuban influences and Latin American flair.

Miami Beach

And for those lovers of water, you might want to end your day at Miami Beach, located in South Beach. Not only did you start off your day witnessing this area’s beautiful sunrise, but Miami Beach also offers a great nightlife and culinary scene.

One great choice might be Time Out Market, where there are 20 stalls with everything from Asian cuisine, Colombian fusion, and wine and cocktails.
